BEAUTYREVIEW: Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum

The packaging of this particular product caught my eye. I admit that I tend to judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a product by its packaging. I am definitely more inclined to buy a product that has pretty, sleek, modern, and unique packaging, rather than some dull, out-dated, tacky packaging. I picked it up and after reading the details I became very interested. But I always, always, ALWAYS, do my research before I ever purchase any beauty product. That night, I went on three different websites to read the reviews: makeupalley.com, amazon.com, and ulta.com. About 95% of all the reviews I read were positive with promising results, some as little as within 2 weeks. I was sold and the next day, I ordered it on Amazon.

Claims:
- An independent ingredient study shows visible hair length within 8 days and increase in hair density by 13% within 4 months.
- Starts working within 2 weeks and improves visible hair growth by 78% compared to normal levels within 3 months.
- 13,000 more hair on average

(See below for links)

Price:
The Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum retails for $34.99 at Ulta, Target, CVS, and Amazon but when I first discovered the product at CVS, I saw it on sale for about $31. When I purchased it on Amazon, it was on sale for about $28.58. I believe I paid a little under $32 including tax (Free shipping via Amazon Prime)

Size:
The serum comes in 2 fluid ounces… so I consider this pretty pricey. (That’s why I find it very important to do research before you try any product!)

Here is a picture of the bottle in my hand for reference.

Smell:
The smell is very musky and herbal. I think it does have some perfume in it too. How I would describe it is, it smells like something my grandpa would use… and I don’t mean that in a bad way. The smell is not over powering, however, and wears off after 2-3 hours of application.

Application:
The directions say to apply 20 drops daily but I found that 15 drops is more than enough. The serum comes with a pipette so I use it to drop 5 drops on my fingertips, rub it on my scalp, trying my best to get as least amount of product on my actual hair. I repeat that process 3 times – totaling 15 drops. I massage my scalp for about 5 minutes. I rub the leftover residue of the product that is on my finger throughout my hair to the tips (keyword: leftover residue), and I wrap my hair in a towel for about 5 more minutes.

Why I decided to try this product:
I became a vegetarian in the year 2012 and ever since, I noticed my hair getting thinner, and thinner, and noticed more hair fallout in the shower. I did some research on possible causes and a lot of sources say women experience hair shedding from change of diet, drastic weight loss, inadequate intake of proteins, fat, and iron, and/or child birth.
a. I did change my diet – I cut out all meat.
b. I did experience weight loss – I was around 120-125 lbs in 2012 to currently 110 lbs. I am 5’4”. It was not drastic weight loss but being petite, 10-15 lbs made a huge difference.
c. I find myself eating mostly carbs and not enough protein, fats and iron.

I hope that this review is helpful and check back to read my updates!

Start date: September 11th 2015

Update: Day 3

My hair is very thin and gets oily very fast. But I was so surprised to find that this serum did not make my hair anymore oily. It actually made my roots fluffier and slightly more voluminous! Also I think the leftover residue that I rubbed onto my hair made it softer and leaker.

Update: Day 8
It's September 19th 2015! 8 days since I've started using the Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum. This product claims to show visible hair length increase in 8 days... I don't think I can accurately test this claim because I got a hair trim on the 15th. I was planning on getting a trim before I started using the serum but I was eager to try it out and did not have time to get a trim until the 15th. My previous haircut did not have a lot of layers so I went and got layers and cut 0.5 inches in length.

However, my hair surprisingly seems less oily at the end of the day and has a more lightweight feel to it as I mentioned in the Day 3 update.

Update: 1 month

Today is October 19th and it has been approximately 1 month since I have been using the Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum. I definitely notice hair growth but I have not been noticing any drastic improvements on volume and hair mass. I do feel as if my hair has more "life" to it, rather than being dull, flat, and stringy. I previously had a problem with hair loss and I cannot say for sure if this serum helped with decreasing it. I do notice minimal hair some days when I wash my hair.

Overall:
I like this hair serum but don't find it as a holy grail or miracle product. I am almost halfway through my bottle and haven't decided if I would be repurchasing it.

My skincare routine! Gentle products for very sensitive, acne-prone skin.

I used to have pretty clear skin up until freshmen/sophomore year of college.
I assume it was the increase of stress level, new environment (I was now commuting to the city everyday), bad eating habits, make-up, etc.

I noticed my skin getting worse around junior/senior year of college, when I was covering my face with makeup/powder/blush/bronzer to hide my acne.

I paid a visit to the dermatologist, only to be prescribed with super harsh chemicals that literally burned my skin and made my skin flare up more.

I also tried going to a esthetician and got weekly facials for a couple of months. I think it prevented further break-outs and kind of soothed my skin but it didn't rid my skin of existing acne and dark spots.

After many months (or even years) of being horrified looking in the mirror without any make up on, I decided to venture out on my own to see how I can make my skin better... Google!!

And finally - I sucked it up, took a big dose of IDGAF attitude and ditched the face make-up and acne cover-ups.

1. Cleanser (Daily, daytime and nighttime)
Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

The Face Shop Charcoal Konjac Cleansing Puff (I couldn't find any links to purchase online, but here is a link to a review and pictures! It's available at any The Face Shop location)

2. Exfoliant/mask (1-3 times a week)
Aveeno Clear Complexion Cream Cleanser

Lush Cosmetics BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask  (I also love this as an exfoliant because it has grounded almonds!)

Lush Cosmetics Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask  (I'm actually not that sure if I get results that I want with Lush masks, but since it's almost all natural ingredients, it doesn't have any negative effects on my skin!)

-Homemade coconut oil scrub: organic coconut oil & organic fine sugar- Visit any natural food stores such as Wholefoods or Trader Joe's. Make sure it's multi-purpose use and NOT cooking use only. It should be solid and white-looking in room temperature or colder. You can use regular white sugar but it has a lot impurities and microscopic grinds of bleached animal bones so it may clog your pores!
Semi-homemade Thayer's Alcohol Free Cucumber Witch Hazel Toner mask - Buy dry face mask sheets (Usually 10 sheets for $2 at The Face Shop) and soak it in the toner. Then put it on your face and wait for it to completely dry.

3. Moisturizer (Nighttime)
Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer

(Daytime)
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF15 (Winter/Fall)
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF30 (Spring/Summer)

4. Toner
I alternate usage between:
Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner - This helps with my dark acne marks. I have bad hyper-pigmentation on my skin so every time I get a pimple or zit, once it goes away, it leaves a dark mark that doesn't go away for a while! (Tip: This is why SPF is really important!)

Thayer's Alcohol Free Cucumber Witch Hazel Toner - This helps me soothe my skin when it's extra irritated or when I have active acne. It also helps with oil.

Lush Cosmetics Tea Tree Water Toner - I love to carry this in my bag in the middle of the summer and give my face a little spritz when it feels greasy and uncomfortable

(Disclaimer: I am not a dermatologist! These are the products and the routine that I used to get my skin to clear of acne.)

I can confidently tell you that my skin gotten WAY better. You will never get instant results, EVER. If any product or routine says "instant" results, it is usually sort lived (a few mins) or a lie. I think it took a couple of months for me to realize the improvement, and for my friends to comment saying my skin got clearer.

I'm still contemplating if I should share pictures because I did document them (on my MacPro Photobooth - so it is not the best quality) but like I said, still contemplating! So check back for updates :)

Mmmm... illennials.

Millennials have been all the talk lately, and I came across some interesting things and thought it might interest you as well.

A millennial, by definition is 'a person reaching adulthood around the year 2000, aka Generation Y-er's. Their birth years range from the early 1980's to early 2000's.'

Here are some links about millennials, research done by Goldman Sachs and Bloomberg Business:

First post!

Hye guys!

Happy April (Fools) World!

This is my first official blog post.

I have been inspired to create my own personal blog to, first and foremost, practice and improve my writing skills - for personal and professional reasons.

Being a 22-year-old, living in NYC, about to graduate college, about to go out into the world (to find a job, and eventually a promising, enjoyable career), and just confused as heck, I thought it was a great idea to share my thoughts and experiences with the world!

I was contemplating on what kind of blog I would run:
a) fashion - I like to consider myself pretty fashionable and trendy but not so much I can base my whole blog on it, so next.

b) beauty - I was very heavily into beauty from watching all the bright and shiny make up/beauty tutorials on YouTube but then I started to break out from all the experimenting - and let's face it (no pun intended) - it can get super expensive! Even if I opt in for all drugstore products, I cannot fit all the beauty products I want to own and try into my budget!!! Plus, I try not to step foot into Sephora because I really feel like a little kid in a candy store :/

c) health - on a scale of 1-10, 10 being a super health freak and 1 being a ticking time bomb of just exploding from bad health, I would consider myself a... 5?
I (try to) drink a lot of water - about 60 fl oz. a day, and have been a vegetarian for the past 3 years. I know, being a vegetarian doesn't automatically make me healthy but I think, overall, I feel better from when I ate meat.
I don't actively workout but I walk a lot! Being from New York City and loving to walk, I find myself walking, very fast, often.
But that's about it!

Then I said - why do I need to fit myself into a category? I shouldn't have to confine myself into any category.

This is my blog, and I will write about anything I want!!!! So this is it. My blog. You can come here to find anything that interests me, and hopefully something that interests you too. :)

P.S. I will try to make this a consistent thing but I can't promise anything... ^_^; Until then,

Bye guys!
